Hispanic Demographics

The Hispanic Population in the U.S. and Abroad

Hispanics or Latinos constitute 16.7% of the total United States population, or 52 million people, making it home to the largest community of Spanish speakers outside of Mexico according to the Pew Research Hispanic Center, surpassing Argentina, Colombia, and Spain within the last decade. According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau projections, Latinos are estimated to reach 25% of the U.S. population or 100 million by the year 2050.

Why invest in reaching Spanish Speakers?

Latinos are key players in the American economy. According to "State of the Hispanic Consumer: The Hispanic Market Imperative" a report released in April by Nielsen, a global marketing and advertising research company; the Hispanic market’s size and buying power of $1 trillion in 2010 is projected to have a 50 percent increase up to $1.5 trillion by 2015.

Given these numbers, the U.S. Hispanic market is one of the top 10 economies in the world. And despite being hit particularly hard by the recession, Latinos are quickly benefitting from economical improvements in the country. The Latino households in the U.S. that earn $50,000 or above are growing at a faster rate than total households.

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world
